Maintenance & Care Guide

Finish: Smoked Oil

This guide applies to products with a smoked oiled finish.
Oiling the surface generously in the first period saturates the
wood, building a stronger barrier against moisture and stains.
Regular maintenance oiling afterwards keeps this protection
intact and the product beautiful for years to come.

Reapplication of Smoked-pigmented Furniture Oil

Clean the surface with mild soapy water.

Wipe the surface dry, then apply a natural smoked-pigmented furniture oil for wood. We recommend Rubio Monocoat Oil Plus 2C, an interior wood oil, in the shade Chocolate, which is suited to the original finish.

In case of heavy wear on solid wood, sand the surface lightly with 220–280 grit sandpaper until the surface is even and smooth before applying oil. Always sand in the direction of the grain, and clean the surface afterwards with a damp cloth.

Veneered surfaces should not be sanded, as the thin wood layer can easily be sanded through.

Follow the instructions for application, drying time and removal on the oil product you are using.

Do not cover the surface until the oil has set

Daily Cleaning

Use a clean, dry cloth, ideally cotton.

Avoid scouring pads or synthetic cloths as these may cause scratches.
To remove dirt, use a damp cotton cloth firmly wrung in clean water.

Never use harsh or abrasive cleaning agents, as these may damage damage the furniture.

Use cleaning agents without solvents and only mild soap.
